CANARIE Announces Second Canadian National E-learning Workshop
February 18-19, 2002
Hotel Wyndham Montreal
Montr=E9al, QC

CANARIE Inc. is pleased to announce the Second Canadian National =
E-learning
Workshop. This meeting will bring together several hundred people who =
are
involved in the development technology-enabled education and training. =
It
will be an opportunity:
=B7 To observe leading-edge examples of e-learning
=B7 To meet researchers, practitioners, and potential collaborators
=B7 To learn what's around the corner in affordable broadband networks.

Canada is at the forefront in deployment of advanced broadband networks.
Over the past year, major reports have been received from the Advisory
Committee on Online Learning
(http://www.schoolnet.ca/mlg/sites/acol-ccael/)and the National =
Broadband
Task Force (http://broadband.ic.gc.ca). Canada is now developing
applications in education/training that match our world-class
infrastructure. This Workshop will of interest to educators, =
developers,
and strategic planners in infrastructure for education. The emphasis =
will
be on educational and pedagogical aspects of advanced network =
applications.

The program will be built around 14 projects that are currently underway =
in
the CANARIE Learning Program, a $28 million cost-shared fund to develop
e-learning capacity in Canada www.canarie.ca. In addition, keynote =
speakers
will address topics such as:
=B7 Design issues in multimedia education
=B7 Digital media intellectual property rights for educators
=B7 Development of a pan-Canadian learning repository
=B7 The CanCore (www.cancore.ca) metatagging protocol.

The First National E-learning Workshop (see
www.canarie.ca/funding/learning/workshop_2000/info.html) was a =
resounding
success. "Knowing what others are doing opens doors for collaboration, =
C3
will enable that collaboration to take place," said one participant. We
expect the 2002 event to be just as exciting.

The workshop will be held at the Hotel Wyndham Montreal, on February =
18-19,
2002. Simultaneous translation will be available. The registration fee =
is
$350 + GST for CANARIE members and $400 + GST for
non-members. An early bird registration fee is also available until =
January
4, 2002. Online registration will be available soon.
